Yet it's often overlooked until the pedal feels dangerously soft or "spongy." Because brake fluid is hygroscopic, it naturally absorbs moisture from the air over time, even if your car is parked. This moisture lowers the boiling point of the fluid and causes internal corrosion in expensive parts like your ABS module and calipers. A regular flush is cheap insurance against total brake failure. If you take your vehicle to the track, we recommend flushing it more often due to prolonged exposure to extreme heat. Additionally, for track cars, switching to a higher-temp brake fluid is wise to prevent fluid boiling and ensure you can stop at the end of the straightaway.

Why the “spongy pedal” happens.
